BEcoming the Dream….
Before there was Dream Girl Dream, there was a woman who taught me how to dream.
Her name was Lillie Belle Lumpkin—my grandmother.
She nurtured me. She loved me. She prayed for me and taught me how to pray for myself. She placed Scripture in my heart—words that still rise up in me today, bringing peace, strength, and reassurance when I felt weak or when life itself feels heavy.
My grandmother was one of my greatest cheerleaders. She believed in me long before I understood what she saw in me. She would tell me who I was, what I would become, and what God had placed inside of me.
She also taught me something I didn't fully appreciate until I became an adult: how to honor relationships, how to forgive, how to love well, and what it means to live as a daughter of God.
And she was courageous.
My grandmother was the first person I knew in our family and neighborhood who openly talked about mental health and actually sought support when she needed it. She taught me that faith and getting help were not opposites. That acknowledging when something hurts doesn't make you weak. And that caring for your mind is part of caring for the woman God created you to be.
She taught me how to believe.
She taught me how to pray.
She taught me how to love.
She taught me how to forgive.
She taught me how to keep going.
And she taught me to believe that there was something more in me.
For years, I thought my grandmother was simply encouraging me to become something.
Now I understand.
She was helping me become the dream.
My grandmother never wrote a book, but her imprint is in every book I write.
Her prayers are woven into every class I teach.
Her encouragement lives in every woman I remind that she can begin again.
Her lessons about faith, relationships, forgiveness, mental wellness, love, and purpose continue to shape the work I do.
And her belief in me is still present in every dream I dare to live.
Dream Girl Dream is part of that legacy.
It was born from a desire to create a space where women can pause long enough to remember who they are, rediscover what God has placed inside of them, and give themselves permission to dream again.
Because sometimes life doesn't take the dream away.
Sometimes life simply makes us forget that we ever had one.
Dream Girl Dream is an invitation to remember.
To reclaim.
To rediscover.
To rise.
And ultimately, to move beyond simply dreaming about the woman you want to become—to BEcome her.
Because the dream was never just about what you would do.
The dream was always about who you would become.
